Litmus Paper
Litmus is one of the oldest pH indicators known to the world. Litmus is a collection of dye compounds extracted from lichens, rather than being one single chemical compound. Litmus paper is used to distinguish whether aqueous solutions are acidic, basic or neutral. No pH values can be assigned, which makes Litmus paper suited for when exact pH measurement is not required.
